Tensas Cool Town victorious in the $100,000 John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes Filly Division at Evangeline Downs

Opelousas –Rebounding from a dull eighth-place effort in the D. S. “Shine” Young Memorial Filly Division on Louisiana Legends Night last month, Tensas Cool Town ($8.60) unleashed a solid late burst to win the $100,000 John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes Filly Division at Evangeline Downs on Friday evening. The event restricted to fillies which were consigned and passed through the sales ring at the 2008 John Franks Memorial Two-Year-Old in Training Sale held this past March at Evangeline Downs. Jockey Billy Patin was able to save ground with the gray daughter of Leestown while racing just behind Diamond Mission and then angled out at the top of the stretch to secure racing room and was able to wear her down late for the victory. She won by 3/4's of a length and covered the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:06 2/5’s on a track labeled fast.

The win was the second consecutive in this event for owner A. Philip Henderson and trainer Anthony Agilar. That duo won last year’s Filly division with the $4,200 Sales purchase Swifty Victress. Out of the Cozzene mare Cool Kiss, she was consigned to the sale by James and Corky Pleasant and was purchased for $22,000 at the Sale, Tensas Cool Town almost tripled her purchase price with the $60,000 winner’s share of the purse. Overall, she has bankrolled more than $83,000 with two wins and a second in five starts.

Diamond Mission, who set the early pace thru fractions of 22 1/5 and 46 1/5, was more than 4 lengths clear of race favorite Miss Silver Pistol. Alert Alert was another neck further back in 4th, followed by Livealittlebit, Lee’s Zeal, J. B.’s Charisma, and Deliteful Affair. Carolina Lady and Mississippiprincess rounded out the official order of finish. Haylie’s Passage and Curley Kim were scratched.

The colts & geldings division will be held on Saturday evening and that six-figure event drew a full field of twelve including recent maiden winners Gratified and Tiger Shark.

Racing continues on a Saturday through Wednesday schedule with a post time of 6:20 p.m. each evening.
