Teurlings upends Iota; Midland slips past Notre Dame
CROWLEY – Teurlings Catholic’s Kaitlyn Moreau proved to be more than a handful for Iota Saturday in the finals of the Notre Dame Invitational Tournament.
The standout forward scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Lady Rebels to the tournament title with a 44-37 victory over the previously-unbeaten Lady Bulldogs.
Iota fell to 3-1 on the season with the loss.
Iota trailed 10-9 after the first quarter. That was before Moreau scored six points in the second to lift the Lady Rebels to a 22-17 advantage.
Iota cut the lead to 28-26 heading into the fourth, but Moreau and Samantha Roy combined for 12 points in the final frame as Teurlings outscored Iota, 16-11.
Roy and Julia Pollard each scored 10 points for the Lady Rebels and Elizabeth Pollard scored four.
Katie Latiola led Iota with 11 points and Ashley Hargrave had nine.
Allyson Baggett and Ashtyn Wriborg each scored four points and Jade LeJeune, Katelyn Regan and Anna Lege each scored three.
In the third-place game, Midland defeated Notre Dame, 57-38.
Midland took a 31-19 cushion at the break before outscoring Notre Dame 26-19 in the second half.
Hannah Rankin poured in 16 points for the Lady Rebels while Sharea Primeaux had 13 and Ramsey Falcon had 11.
In addition, Patricia Garrie chipped in eight points, Katie Primeaux scored five and Haley Guidry scored four.
Kylie Pannell led the Lady Pios with 13 points and Taylor Simon scored 10.
Also scoring for Notre Dame were Celia Charles with six points, Peyton Miller with five, Emily Vidrene two and Andre Lyons and Mallory Chaisson one each.
