Theodore “Ted” Oliver III

JENNINGS - A mass of Christian burial honoring the life of Theodore “Ted” Oliver III, 53, was held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mermentau on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 12 noon with Father Donald Pousson officiating. Ted died as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Evangeline Parish. Visitation was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Thursday, October 22 and Friday, October 23. A rosary was recited by Russell Myers on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. Ted was laid to rest next to his beloved father, Theodore “Buddy” Oliver, Jr., in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery.

Theodore III was born in Beaumont, Texas to the late Theodore Oliver Jr. and Virginia G. Oliver Hebert. He followed in his father’s footsteps and became a truck driver. He enjoyed the open road and seeing the countryside. Ted also had a love for music and managed a rock-n-roll band, the Oliver Brothers Band. He was a devoted Catholic and was a member of a rosary group with his church. Ted was a friendly and loving person. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with his friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Leaving behind to cherish his memory is his beloved mother, Virginia G. Oliver Hebert of Lafayette; step father, Charles Hebert Sr. of Egan; his best friend and companion, Velma Carline of Lafayette; two brothers, Ronald Blaine and Rodney Paul Oliver Sr. both of Mermentau; three step brothers, Charles Hebert Jr. of Egan, Carol Paul Hebert of Lake Charles, and Corwin Douglas Hebert of Egan; his god mother, Susie Gordon Istre of Egan; two godchildren, Lane Blaire Oliver Crossley of Indiana and Rodney Paul Oliver Jr. of Mermentau; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his father, Theodore “Buddy” Oliver Jr.; grandparents, Theodore and Lucy Q. Oliver, and Chester and Mercedes Guidry; godfather, Calvin Chester Guidry; and a stepbrother, Carl Michael Hebert.
