Three Ten Club conducts monthly meeting for November

The Three Ten Club held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 18 at the home of Bobbie de la Houssaye with Jackie Fogleman and Louise Morrow serving as co-hostess.

President, Mary Beth Geesey called

the meeting to order and ask Wilda Burleigh and Bobbie de la Houssaye to lead members in the club collect and the Pledge of Allegiance respectively.

Muff Bier, secretary; and Bobbie Chambers, treasurer; gave their reports. Valerie Trahan gave the final details for the club’s Christmas Party which will be at Café Des Amis in Breaux Bridge on Tuesday, December 16.

Donations for the Angel Tree Christmas Project were taken up, and Georgie Petitjean and Betty Faulk volunteered to make the gift purchases.

Louise Morrow gave an interesting program on the sugar cane industry in Louisiana.

Sugar cane was introduced in the 1750’s largely by Jesuits priest, and from that time on it has been a successful and prosperous industry in Louisiana.

Sugar cane is associated with many of the large plantations in the state. The Steens Syrup Company in Abbeville, one of the well known sugar industries in our area,, donated a gift package of their products which was raffled off among those present, and Mary Beth Geesey was the lucky winner.

Enjoying delicious refreshments served by the hostesses were Carolyn Barousse, Sarah Bercier, Mary Freeland, Barbara Geesey, Suzanne Gray, Joan Hoffpauer, Brucie Landry, Peggy Landry, Jane Omohundro, Peggy Sandidge, Alice Whiting, Elaine Wright and Helen Zaunbrecher and also those previously mentioned.
