Tigers beat Franklin Parish 20-8
Coach Keith Carona and his Independence Tigers hit the road last week as they traveled to North Louisiana to take on 4A Franklin Parish. Independence came away with a 20-8 win but the score was not an indication of how much the Tigers dominated their opponent.
“I thought we came out and started the game well but we kind of taper off in the second half,” said Tigers Coach Keith Carona. The Tigers jumped out to a 14-0 lead and dominated the game from a statistic standpoint.
Independence piled up 345-yards of total offense and limited Franklin Parish to just 127-yards including zero yards passing. The Tigers opened the scoring in the first quarter when Chris Carter scored on a seven yard run. James Cervantes tacked on the PAT and the Tigers led 7-0 in the first quarter.
That scored would remain the same until the Tigers extended their lead later in the first half. Up 7-0 in the second quarter the Tigers called on Reggie Sims for their next score of the game. Sims scored on a one-yard run in the second and James Cervantes added the PAT and Independence led 14-0.
Franklin Parish would later score a touchdown on a 30-yard run to and then added the two-point conversion to cut the Tigers lead to 14-8 by halftime. That would be the only time that Franklin Parish would score in the game.
The Tigers Defense played stout during the game as they shut out Franklin Parish for three quarters and also picked off two passes in the game as well. Independence then put the game away in the third quarter when Chris Carter scored his second touchdown of the game.
Carter scored on an 11-yard keeper to give Independence a 20-8 lead in the third quarter. The Tigers then went on to win the game 20-8 to improve their record to 3-1 on the season. Independence will be on the road again this week as they travel five miles north to face their rival Amite.
