The Acadiana High School Wreckin' Rams proved to be too much for the Lake Arthur Fighting Tigers in the Midland High School Spectacular Basketball Tournament consolation game on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008, as they used a fourth quarter explosion to take a convincing 56-33 win.
Lake Arthur was in the ball game until that pivotal fourth period, when the Rams made a 17-2 run to change a competitive game into a blowout.
Lake Arthur and the Rams were tied 11-11 at the end of one period, and the Tigers trailed Acadiana by just one point at half, 23-22.
The Rams got a little more breathing room in the third stanza by outscoring the Tigers 16-9 to take a 39-31 lead into the final frame of play.
No Tiger players hit for double digits against the smothering defense of the Rams, but Nick Klein managed nine points, while teammates Durrell Prudhomme and DeAngelo Thompson added eight and seven tallies. Darius Mitchell and Brad Armentor scored five and four points respectively to round out the Tiger offensive output.
D.J. St. Julien led Acadiana with 13 points, while teammates Kendrick Stansberry and Ian Boudreaux hit for 12 and 11 markers respectively.
Lake Arthur hit on seven field goals, four three-pointers, and was seven of 11 from the free throw line.
Acadiana pumped in 17 field goals, four three-pointers, and were a poor eight of 20 from the charity stripe.
Klein led the Tigers with three three-pointers, while Prudhomme clicked on one.
With the loss, the Tigers claimed fourth place and fell to 11-4 on the season.
