Tigers remain unbeaten, maul Vinton Lions 77-51

The Lake Arthur High School Fighting Tigers used a 22-4 first quarter explosion to rip apart the Vinton High School Lions by a score of 77-51 Tuesday, February 10, 2009 on the road in Vinton in a District 5-2A basketball contest.
The win also kept the Tigers unbeaten in league play this season.
The Tigers used a smothering defense to pull away from the home team early on, cashing in on easy transition buckets caused by Lion turnovers.
Lake Arthur continued to pour in on in the second quarter, outscoring Vinton 25-16 to take an overwhelming 47-20 lead at the half.
Vinton was stifled again in the third frame, as Lake Arthur used an 18-6 eight minute run to take a 65-26 lead entering the fourth and final period.
Substitutes took to the court in the fourth stanza for Lake Arthur, as Vinton outscored the visitors 25-12 to cut the margin to 77-51 at game’s end.
Durrell Prudhomme led the Tiger scoring with 20 points, while Nick Klein hit for 17, Colby Lavergne notched 12, and DeAngelo Thompson added 10 tallies. Jacob Martin and Josh Turner each pumped in five, Aulden Robinson added four, while Brad Armentor and John Thompson each supplied a single field goal for the Tigers.
Lake Arthur hit on 30 field goals, five three pointers, and was 10-15 from the free throw line.
Vinton’s Doc Roberts and Jarrod Anderson led the Lions with 20 and 14 markers respectively.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 17-6 overall and 4-0 in District 5-2A play.
Vinton fell to 3-17 overall and 0-4 in the league with the crushing defeat.
