The Lake Arthur Tigers and Lady Tigers traveled to Kinder this past Tuesday, February 3, 2009 to face the Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets in key District 5-2A contests and ultimately split two games, with the Tigers winning 69-55 and the Lady Tigers suffering a narrow 36-31 defeat.

The opener pitted the Lady Tigers and the Lady Jackets, who were tied for the league lead with 3-1 records.

Kinder jumped out to a slim 11-9 lead after the first eight minutes, as both teams unsuccessfully tried to put some distance between each other on the scoreboard.

The second stanza was played deliberately and close to the vest, with Kinder taking a slight 4-2 advantage to grab a 15-11 lead at the half.

In the pivotal third stanza, the home team managed to get some key buckets in the paint and hold off a Lady Tiger rally to win the period 11-7 and take a 26-18 advantage to the fourth and final frame.

Lake Arthur could not ever catch up to their rude hosts, although they managed a 13-10 run in the last eight minutes to lose the district contest by a final score of 36-31.

Ashalun Brown led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 11 points, while teammates Kadie Bonin and Carly Hay finished with eight and six tallies. Keyontae Campbell and Devyn Trahan pumped in four and two points to round out the Lake Arthur scoring attack.

Bri Harmon led the way offensively for Kinder with 16 total tallies.

Lake Arthur hit on 13 field goals, one three-pointer, and was six of 10 from the charity stripe.

Kinder clicked on 12 field goals, three three-pointers, and was nine of 14 from the free throw line.

With the loss, Lake Arthur fell to 6-14 overall and 3-2 in district, while the Lady Jackets improved to 14-10 and 4-1 in the league.

Tigers 69 Kinder 55

The Tigers, who entered their contest unbeaten in league play, sought sweet revenge for the Lady Tigers immediately afterwards and delivered with a convincing 69-55 win over the Yellow Jackets.

Lake Arthur bounded out to a quick 12-8 advantage in the opening stanza, using pressure defense to dominate their hosts early on.

The Tigers increased that lead and pulled away in the second quarter, coasting to a 19-12 eight minute run to grab a commanding 31-20 lead at the half.

Any thoughts of a Kinder upset ended with a 22-14 thrashing in the third period by the visitors, who snatched a 43-34 advantage entering the final frame.

Kinder would rally in the final quarter against the Tigers subs, but the 21-16 outburst would fall far short of victory, as the Tigers claimed the 69-55 league win.

Senior forward Durrell Prudhomme led the Tigers with 29 total points, while teammate Darius Mitchell pumped in 12. DeAngelo Thompson added eight, followed by Nick Klein with seven. Brad Armentor clicked for five, Josh Turner notched four, while Colby Lavergne and John Thompson hit for three and one point respectively.

The Tigers hit on 30 field goals, three three-pointers, and were six of nine from the free throw line.

Kinder managed just 21 field goals, four three-pointers, and was seven of 14 from the charity stripe.

With the win, Lake Arthur improved to 16-6 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in district, while Kinder fell to 5-15 and 1-2 in the league standings.
