The Lake Arthur Fighting Tigers took care of business and earned the right to play old rival Welsh for the District 5-2A Championship by beating up on the Kinder High School Yellow Jackets by a final score of 70-35 this past Friday, February 20, 2009 in the friendly confines of the Wilbert C. “Nooky” Moore Gymnasium.
The Tigers simply overwhelmed the visitors from the very start, jumping out to a 16-4 first quarter lead and using a 23-11 second period run to increase their margin to 39-15 at the halftime break.
Tiger head basketball coach Roderick Williams substituted liberally from that point on, and the subs outscored Kinder 31-20 during the second half to cruise to the 70-35 league victory.
Darius Mitchell and Durrell Prudhomme led Lake Arthur offensively with 16 and 14 points respectively, while teammates Nick Klein and Josh Turner added nine and seven tallies. Cade Delcambre and Aulden Robinson each scored six, while Colby Lavergne added five. DeAngelo Thompson contributed four, while Dylan LeJeune and Jacob Martin added two and one point respectively to the Tiger ledger.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 18-7 and 5-1 in district, while Kinder fell to 6-18 overall and 2-4 in the league.
