Top-ranked Notre Dame knocks off No. 10 West Feliciana
ST. FRANCISVILLE – Top-ranked Notre Dame added another impressive victory to its resume over the weekend.
The Pios, No. 1 in Class AAA, exploded for five runs in the fourth inning and added three more in the sixth to cruise to an 8-3 road victory over No. 10 West Feliciana Saturday afternoon.
The victory sent the Pios to 19-1 overall on the season. West Feliciana fell to 9-7 with the loss.
The Pios trailed early in the contest when West Feliciana scored single runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 advantage.
Notre Dame answered the call in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on RBI singles from Nick Gossen and Luke Bourgeois. Paiton McBride also plated a run on a bases-loaded walk and two more runs crossed the plate courtesy of wild pitches.
West Feliciana cut the lead to 5-3 in the fifth before the Pios added three more runs in the sixth on an RBI single from Mitch Corzine and a two-run single from Austin Robichaux.
Corzine, the Pios’ starting pitcher, held West Feliciana in check the final two innings to preserve the victory.
Corzine improved to 5-0 after limiting West Feliciana to three runs on six hits. and two walks. He struck out seven in seven innings.
Offensively, the Pios racked up eight hits on the day.
Pete Petitjean was the only Pio with two hits while Robichaux singled and drove in two runs. McBride doubled and drove in one run. Bourgeois, Corzine and Gossen each had run scoring singles while Ricky Stoma had one hit.
Notre Dame returns to District 5-AAA today when the Pios travel to Abbeville to take on the Wilcats at 4 p.m.
