Train Hits, Kills Man Thursday

A pedestrian died Thursday night when struck by an eastbound BNSF train on the railroad tracks near the Second Street intersection

Chief Carroll Stelly reported his office was notified at 9:50 p.m. of the fatal accident. City police officers responded.

The not yet identified black male was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroners Office.

The man was apparently walking on a path through a wooded area near rice bins near Second Street.

The train was stopped and was blocking most of the crossings in the city when city police arrived.

The investigation is continuing at this time.
