Trick-or-treating starts tomorrow

Trick-or-Treating Starts Thursday in several parishes

Abbeville Trick-or-Treating begins tonight, Thursday, Oct. 30 at 5:30 p.m. and Abbeville Police Chief Rick Coleman said the best place to start the evening is at Scare in the Square, which takes place in Magdalen Square, before the Trick-or-Treating begins. He said the Police Department will be handing out reflective Trick-or-Treat bags and other items that will add to the preventative safety measures that parents can take when Trick-or-Treating.

Scare on the Square, sponsored by the Vermilion Parish Library, will be hosting a costume contest for several different categories, including an adult group category, as well as storytelling and trick-or-treating. Registration for the costume contest starts at 5 p.m. in Magdalen Square and will continue until 6 p.m. Costume judging will take place from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., followed by storytelling from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Winners will be announced after the storytelling, and, finally, trick-or-treating downtown will last from 6 until 8 p.m.

The Scare on the Square costume contest is free to enter, and children 12 and under will be allowed to compete in several different categories. Children 12 and up will be able to compete in the adult group category, which allows only adults in costume to participate. Trick-or-treating will commence in Abbeville this evening from 5:30 to 8 p.m. In Erath, Delcambre, Kaplan and Maurice, trick-or-treating will start at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. Gueydan will host its trick-or-treating night on Halloween night from 5 to 7 p.m. Residents who live outside of the Abbeville city limits will be allowed to trick-or-treat on Thursday or Friday, depending on their area, from 6 to 8 p.m.

All trick-or-treaters, parents, family, homeowners and drivers should exercise caution when traveling on Thursday and Friday night, as there will be many goblins and ghouls about town. For more tips on Halloween safety tips, please visit our Web site at http://www.abbevillenow.com/news/47.
