Truck crashes into Movie Gallery

Rayne Chief of Police Carroll Stelly announced his department responded to a crash Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 23, of a vehicle into the Movie Gallery store located on the corner of The Boulevard and West Jeff Davis.

Police officers, responding to the call, discovered a white 1997 Ford Explorer that was traveling on Jeff Davis and entered Movie Gallery parking lot, had jumped the parking bumper and entered the business through several large glass windows.

The driver was transported to American Legion Hospital by the Acadian Ambulance where she refused treatment. A blood sample was drawn for a chemical test that will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Evidence, including several unidentified pills, were recovered from the vehicle and will also be submitted the Acadiana Crime Lab in New Iberia for analysis.

The driver, Tammy Coleman, W/F, Dob 9/7/1959, 152 Androcles Road, Carencro, was arrested and charged with OWI first offense and careless operation by Rayne Police.

Witnesses to the accident told police Coleman was driving carelessly before the accident including the driver of a 2001 Ford Truck that sustained minor damage when Coleman’s vehicle stuck it before she hit the building.

No one inside the store at the time of the accident was injured.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are expected.
