Tuesday accident claims second life

A second person has died as a result of Tuesday afternoon accident on I-10 that had already taken the life of one Church Point teenager.

Aaron Richard, 17, of Church Point had been listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon, however he succumbed to his injuries Wednesday evening. The accident had already claimed the life of Benjamin Guidry, 18, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner.

Both were traveling eastbound on I-10 in a 2000 Honda Accord driven by 17-year-old Brennon Sonnier when he clipped the rear of a 1998 Volkswagon driven by Megan Collum of San Antonio. Sonnier lost control of his vehicle sending him across the median and I-10’s westbound lane where he crashed into a tree on the side of the highway. Sonnier sustained moderate damages in the accident.

Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

State police state that the accident remains under investigation.
