Two arrested in Vermilion Parish copper thefts

Two people have been arrested and booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center in relation to ongoing copper thefts throughout the parish.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon says that Anthony Hardy of 122 Laura Street in Abbeville was charged with one count of simple burglary with bond set at $7,500 and Hunter Hull of 5108 Longview in Abbeville was charged with one count of felony theft bond set at $5,000.

Couvillon says the arrests are the result of a three month investigation into the numerous copper thefts throughout the parish. The sheriff also said that the two arrested would likely face additional charges and more will be arrested in the near future.

Detectives in Vermilion Parish have been working diligently to solve the theft cases and put those responsible for them behind bars. Aggressive patrol, covert operations and unmarked surveillance were added to the parish in an effort to better protect our residents and their belongings.

The sheriff's office is still looking for more information on the thefts. If anyone has any information or observes type of suspicious individuals and/or behavior in their area, they are urged to contact the office at 898-4402.
