UBS announces five local drives
CROWLEY – United Blood Services is now in critical need of O negative blood donors.
All O negative blood donors are strongly encouraged to come donate at one of these upcoming Crowley blood drives:
• Wednesday, July 10: American Legion Hospital, 3 to 7 p.m.
• Saturday, July 20: Lowe’s Crowley, 2 to 4:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, July 24: American Legion Hospital, 3 to 7 p.m.
• Friday, July 26: RIMCO, 2 to 4:15 p.m.
• Tuesday, July 30: Walmart Crowley, 3:15 to 6 p.m.
“We want to stress that all blood types are currently needed but we have the most need for O blood,” said local Donor Recruitment Representative Anne Laughlin. “Also, if you don’t currently know your blood type, donating blood is great way to find out while having the potential to save up to three lives with your one donation.”
All donors will receive a retro-style “Life is Good” T-shirt, while supplies last.
Given the current O negative need, all O negative donors will receive an extra 600 points in the United Blood Services Hero Rewards store on upcoming drives. Plus, all O donors (positive and negative) who give double red cells will receive an additional 400 points online. O type blood is so important to the blood supply because it can be transfused to the most people.
Also, United Blood Services is now offering a fast track interview process that allows donors to answer most of the pre-donation questions from their home computer the day of the drive. Donors who want to do this should go to www.unitedbloodservices.org, and click on “Health History Questionnaire” on the left-hand side of the screen. After answering all the questions, the donor should print the results and bring it to the bloodmobile. The Health History Questionnaire must be completed on the same day as your donation. It cannot be completed the day before.
Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 years of age must have signed permission from a parent or guardian. Donors receive a free cholesterol test. A photo ID is required to donate. For more information, call 337-739-4978.
