ULL's Mayme Cook places second in javelin at SBC Track and Field Championships
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Lafayette freshman Mayme Cook helped lead the Lady Cajuns to a seventh-place finish in the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Ragin Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility over the weekend.
The former Notre Dame standout earned eight of the Lady Cajuns’ 70 points with a second-place finish in the javelin. Her throw of 142-5 was second best to UL-Monroe’s Marcie Richard (142-6).
Cook’s personal best throw this season was a 152-10 at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette in early March.
“We are young on the women’s side but I think Mayme has a lot of potential,” said UL head coach Lon Badeaux, who was honored as the Men’s Track and Field Coach of the Year following the conference meet. “She could possibly end up being one of the best javelin throwers in the country.”
Kirsten Meche, a senior from Iota, also scored in the javelin with a seventh-place throw of 134-8.
Meche’s best throw of the season was a 143-3 that she posted at the Cole-Lancon Invitational on April 28.
