United Blood Services gearing up for drive
CROWLEY – Summer blood drives are coming up and your help is needed. We are inviting all Crowley residents to save a life! Please come out and donate on Wednesday, July 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Camelot Place of Crowley or from 3:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Popeye’s.
It can be very difficult to maintain an adequate blood supply during the summer months. We are all getting into the mode of summer vacation and planning July 4 celebrations. Unfortunately, area patients still use blood daily. “We need your help to ensure blood is available throughout the upcoming July 4 holiday. You can make a difference in three different lives when you donate,” said Jason Conner, Sr., Donor Recruitment representative for United Blood Services.
“Mostly healthy adults are eligible to give blood,” says Conner. “You can safely donate every eight weeks if you are at least 17 years of age and weigh at least 110 pounds.
More than 4,000 pints of blood are needed each month to meet the needs of the 67 area transfusion facilities here in south Louisiana serviced by United Blood Services. When someone donates, that pint of blood can be separated into three different components. So, that one pint can save three lives.
If you are type O or B, please ask about donating 2RBC’s or Automation Red Cells.
Apart from the very rewarding aspect of donating blood, an individual receives the benefit of a free mini-physical, in which UBS checks your blood pressure, temperature, pulse and red blood count or iron level.
Donors will be registered to win a GMC Canyon pickup truck from Courtesy Automotive, a Jacuzzi from All Season’s Pools and Spas, and a free two piece dinner (while supplies last) from Popeye’s when you donate.
Don’t forget you ID, and bring a friend!
