UPDATE: Isaac begins to weaken
The wobbling may or may not be over, but at the very least Hurricane Isaac has already begun weakening.
The Category 1 storm made landfall with sustained winds at 80 mph, but as it finally appears to be following the northwest track that forecasters have predicted, Isaac saw its sustained winds drop to 75 mph.
According to the 10 a.m. CDT advisory, Isaac was located at 29.6N, 90.7W moving northwest at 5 mph.
And while Isaac has slowed, local meteorologists point out that because Isaac is now on land that weakening trend will continue and the storm could reach tropical storm status again within the next few hours.
Currently, the projected track has all of Acadiana west of Isaac center, but in Isaac's case that track could change in a matter of hours.
