UPDATE: Names released from early morning accident that claimed one life, one arrested

A Crowley man charged with DWI, his fourth offense, is accused of causing a crash that killed a man from the Kaplan area.

Aaron Hamilton was pronounced dead where the crash happened shortly after midnight on Oddfellows Road near Tower Road, just south of Exit 82 in Crowley.

"Joshua Jackson, 30, was driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed within the city of Rayne. Officers with Rayne Police attempted to stop the vehicle driven by Jackson, but stopped the pursuit with the concern being for the public's safety," Police Chief K.P. Gibson said.

The chief said officers did follow Jackson's vehicle while notifying Crowley Police and the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office of the circumstances.

Jackson was driving an SUV and rear-ended Hamilton's car, Gibson said. A passenger in the car had moderate injuries. Jackson is in the Acadia Parish jail charged with reckless operation, DWI, vehicular homicide and vehicular negligent injury.
