UPDATE: State police investigating officer involved shooting in Acadia Parish

ACADIA PARISH- Early this morning, Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon requested detectives with Louisiana State Police investigate a shooting on Leger Road south of the city limits of Crowley involving two of his deputies.

The initial investigation indicates that at about 3 a.m. two deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance complaint at a residence in the 6100 block of Leger Road. When deputies arrived at the scene they entered the house and 41-year-old James A. Trahan of Crowley, armed himself with a shotgun. Trahan fired at the deputies striking one of them in the leg. The deputies returned fire fatally wounding Trahan.

The deputy who was shot has been transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery. He is currently recovering in the hospital.

This case remains under investigation.
