Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office Reserve Unit is looking for a few good men and women

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the position of Reserve Deputy. Reserve Deputies must have the following certifications which is provided by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office, Firearms, Less Than Lethal Weapons, First Aid, CPR, AED, OSHA Workplace Safety, and Defensive Tactics. Reserve Deputies will also be required to attend and work festivals throughout the year. Reserve Deputies, once properly trained, have the opportunity to be compensated for their time when called out to fill a position that would normally be filled by a full time Deputy or Dispatcher. All of the training and functions listed above count toward a Reserve’s hours that must be worked in order to remain a member. We ask that anyone applying understand the time commitment that must be put forth. It is a regulation that members log at least 36 hours every three months. That being said, it is a great way to fill your free time by assisting your fellow residents and may also lead to a rewarding career in Law Enforcement as many members like it so much they move on to became full time Deputies. If you would like to view our web site please go to www.vpso.net and click on the Reserves Tab where you will find more information as well as contact information and our new criteria for Reserve Deputies. We want Vermilion Parish residents to know that we do have an active Reserve Unit and would like to welcome those who meet the criteria and have the free time to apply toward their effort at being a Reserve Deputy.

On November 29, 2008 from 9:00AM to 3:00PM, the Reserve Unit will be at Wal-Mart in Abbeville. As a service to Vermilion Parish residents they will be providing supplies to collect DNA as well as fingerprinting for children. Residents will also be able to take a guided tour of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Mobile Command Center as well as a Patrol Unit. Residents will also be able to speak to Reserve Deputies who will be there to answer any questions concerning the Reserve Unit.
