JENNINGS - A mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of Verna Gary, 84, will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jennings, La on Friday, October 2, 2009 at 10 a.m. She was called to her Heavenly Father Wednesday morning from the Gueydan Memorial Guest House. Visitation was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Thursday, October 1 from 2:30 p.m. til 10 p.m. and will resume on Friday, October 2 at 8 a.m. until the time of her service. A rosary was recited on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. Mrs. Gary will be laid to rest in Doucet Cemetery.
Verna was born in Hathaway, La to the late Clopha and Durliea Landry Gary in March of 1925. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to the care of her family. She loved playing with her grand babies. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, pokeno, and dancing. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Leaving behind to cherish her memory are her beloved daughters, Lorita Breaux of Hathaway, Toby and her husband Clifford LeJeune also of Hathaway, Janet Daigle of Hathaway, and Becky and her husband Ernie Istre of Estherwood; one brother, Dewey Gary of Jennings; one sister, Bernice Hebert of Iowa; and her 23 beautiful grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 21 great great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, Clopha and Durliea Landry Gary; husband, John Louis Louviere; two sons, Elmer William and Bobby Ray Louviere; her grandson, Joshua Louviere and her son-in-law, Emerie Breaux.
Carrying Mrs. Gary to her final resting place will be Bobby Ray Louviere, Jr., Heath Breath, Ernest “Boo” Istre, Kaleb Teal, Terry Louviere, and Cody LeJeune. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Louviere, Chris LeJeune, Clifford LeJeune, Jr., and Braylan Daigle.
