Vikings pick up big win over Saints
Coach Dave Masterson and his Northeast Vikings got back in the district 8-3A race last week with a big 19-14 win over the West Feliciana Saints. Northeast is now 2-2 overall on the season and 1-1 in district play.
West Feliciana took an early lead when they made an eight-yard touchdown run from Terrance Bell and with the PAT the Saints led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. But the Vikings would come alive in the second and take the lead before halftime.
Northeast would score two unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 13-7 halftime lead over the Saints. Darren Ellis got the Vikings on the board when he scored on a five-yard run. Craig Johnson then tacked on the PAT and the game was tied at 7-7 in the second quarter.
The Vikings Defense would then turn up the heat on the Saints as they did not allow a score in the second quarter. Northeast got the ball back and then called on Jarvis Houston for their next score.
Houston plunged into the end zone on a one-yard run to give the Vikings a 13-7 lead. Northeast held on to the lead at halftime but then after a scoreless third quarter the Saints reclaimed the lead in the fourth.
Down 13-7, the Saints bounced back and took the lead when they got a 55-yard run from DeShawn Morrison and with the PAT the home standing Saints led 14-13 with the game in the balance.
Northeast rallied and put together a game winning drive that ended when Roosevelt Wright scored on a 10-yard run to make the score 19-14 in favor of the Vikings. Northeast then held on and picked up their first district win of the season.
