Volleyball Roundup: Lady Pios, Lady Dogs fall short
LAKE CHARLES – After seven straight victories, the Notre Dame Lady Pios tasted their first defeat of the season Tuesday.
The Lady Pios, who play host to 2012 Division I state champion St. Thomas More this evening, fell to 7-1 on the season after losing to St. Louis of Lake Charles, 25-27, 25-17, 21-25.
Lindsey Meyer and Grace Morgan paced the Lady Pios’ offense with 11 kills each. Morgan also had one assist, six digs, one ace and two blocks. Meyer added 18 digs.
The offense was set up by Alex Miller and Sam Lyons, who combined for 36 assists on the night. Miller had 19 assists to go along with three kills, eight digs, one ace and one block. Lyons totaled 17 assists while also logging five kills, seven digs and two aces.
Also contributing for the Lady Pios were Anne Frank (6 kills, 7 digs), Laura Schmid (5 kills, 5 digs, 1 block), Alli Daigle (1 kill, 1 assist, 26 digs, 1 ace) and Gabbie Romero (11 digs).
In Iota, the Lady Bulldogs also suffered their first loss of the season.
Ascension Episcopal, a Division IV state semifinalist a year ago, ran past the Lady Dogs in three games, 25-20, 25-10, 25-20.
Madison Meche paced the Lady Dogs’ offense with nine kills. She also had 10 digs and one assist.
Madison Benoit added four kills, five digs and five blocks while Erika Manuel had three kills and three blocks.
Mallory Faul was Iota’s assist leader with 12. She also had two kills.
Jillian Boone and Sydney Hebert led the defensive charge with 39 and 24 digs, respectively. Hebert also had an ace.
Also contributing for Iota were Emily Navarre (11 digs, 1 ace), Cambri St. Andre (1 kill, 5 digs), Avery Wriborg (5 digs, 1 block) and Sarah Johnson (13 digs).
The Lady Dogs will open district play this evening when they travel to Prairie Rhonde to take on Northwest.
In other action, the Northside Christian Lady Warriors improved to 4-3 on the season Tuesday with a 3-0 road victory over Beau Chene while the Crowley Ladies dropped a 3-1 decision to Lafayette Monday to fall to 2-5 on the season.
Unfortunately, statistics on those two games were not made available by the schools.
Northside will play host to DeQuincy this evening while the CHS Ladies will open up district play at Rayne.
