Volunteers elect new officers
The Vermilion Volunteers for Family and Community recently met to make plans for the upcoming events and projects of the upcoming year. Club presidents gave reports on the projects their clubs will be working on, and it was also a time to reflect on all the different things the various clubs have accomplished during 2008.
The new year will also bring some new officers to the club along with others who will continue in their positions. Mandy Armentor, LSU Ag-Agent and Judy Broussard, state president, led a very impressive installation ceremony. A lit candle of different colors was given to each officer while a description of their position was read to the assembled group.
The officers for 2009 will be Romona Babineaux, President; Virgie Foreman, Vice President for Program and Vice President for Public Policy; Lou Ella Touchet, Secretary; Judy Broussard, Treasurer; Flo Frith, Reporter; Leta Touchet, Parliamentarian; Meceal Smith, Public Relations. Also elected were the Chairmen of the different services for the club.
Those officers are Lee Simon, Environment; Nona Griffin, Family; Donna Breaux, Literacy; Romona Babineaux and Judy Broussard, Marketing and Membership; Virgie Foreman, Scholarship; Jane Simon, CVU Hours; Leta Touchet, By-Laws; and Margaret Graffeo, Parish Cookbook Sales.
New President Romona Babineaux thanked all of the past and future officers for the work they have done volunteering all over our parish and the state of Louisiana.
After the meeting, an International Luncheon was enjoyed by all the club members in the organization. France was the country chosen by The Gingham Maids club this year. Information was given to the members on the country and its people. Various members who have visited France also gave brief descriptions of their experiences while visiting France and mingling with the French people. Everyone expressed good memories from their visits. After all, the people are similar and connected to the people of our area.
The VVFC members then enjoyed a Christmas Social and exchanged gifts while playing holiday games. Everyone left in a holiday spirit and are looking forward to accomplishing their goals for the new year, 2009.
