A Ville Platte woman is facing 135 counts of identity theft after she allegedly used her ex-employer’s account to pay bills for herself and others.

Lt. Craig Nicholas, Ville Platte Police Department said a local business owner contacted the department recently after the owner learned an ex-employee had been using his bank account to pay her bills. He said the bank contacted the employer concerning the amounts that were being drafted from his account to pay utility bills, insurance and phone bills.

An investigation was conducted, and Nichols and Sgt. Joseph “Plywood” Fontenot contacted the suspect’s mother, because the majority of the bills being paid belonged to her mother. The next day, Angelle Ardoin Thomas, 29, 603 Laran St., Ville Platte, contacted officers about the case and allegedly admitted willingly what she had been doing.

Nicholas said this occurred between June 2007 and July 2008. They learned Thomas allegedly received payment for the bills, pocketed the money and used her ex-employer’s account to pay the bills. The accounts were paid through drafts from the account.

Thomas is scheduled to turn herself into authorities this morning, August 14, for booking purposes.
