The Ville Platte Police Department has charged one with sexual battery after responding to a call concerning alleged sexual misconduct, which took place shortly before 2:30 a.m. Monday, July 21.

Lt. Pat Foret said a young girl, who was babysitting, said her aunt and the girlfriend of the suspect left the house. She was laying on the couch with the kids when the suspect allegedly entered the room and told his son to go sleep with his sister.

Foret said the young girl said the man started making passes at her and telling her all types of things. He allegedly dropped his pants and attempted to lay on top of her. She screamed and he hid next door in a bedroom where the officers located him when they arrived on the scene.

As a result of this investigation, Darrell James Gabriel Jr., 27, 712 S. Dupre St., Apt. 73, Ville Platte, was charged with sexual battery.
