Warriors look to keep moving forward
AMITE – After a 14-9 season in 2008 and a trip to the Class 3A State Playoffs the Amite High School Baseball Team is looking to take things another step forward in 2009. “We’re hoping that the success we had last year carries over to this season,” said Warriors Head Coach Jasper Bryant. The Amite Warriors are currently trying to iron out a few kinks before district play begins in two weeks. Amite will participate in the Franklinton Tournament this weekend and then play in the Loranger Wolves Tourney next weekend before district play begins.
Bryant says the team is working hard and he is seeing improvement from game to game. “We were hoping for a faster start but the players have been working very hard and we are starting to come around.” Bryant is now in his fourth season as head coach of the Warriors and he has some veteran leadership back in the fold this season. The Warriors have six starters back this season and experience should be on their side. Coach Bryant says that the team is focusing on getting better in their next seven games before the tough district slate rolls around. “Loranger is real good and I think the others teams in the district will all battle hard this season.”
Coach says that his club has to keep improving on defense and right now his team is doing a good job of putting the ball into play on a consistent basis. “Our defense is coming around and we are taking things one game at a time,” Bryant said. Coach Bryant says that the teams in district 10-3A are going to be tough again and the competition should be stout. “I think it’s going to be a good challenge this year and the players are looking forward to moving forward.”
