Warriors 'Purple and White' game this Friday

AMITE – After and 11-1 season and a trip to the Class 3A Quarter-Finals the Amite High School Football Team is gearing up for another game already. The Warriors will hold their Purple and White Scrimmage this Friday night at R.W. Russell Memorial Stadium on the AHS Campus beginning at 6 p.m. “It’s an exciting time. We have a lot of great players to replace that are graduating but the team has worked hard in the off season and they are excited about the 2009 season as well,” said Warriors Coach Alden Foster. Foster says that competition is fierce as there are many position battles that will continue to take place between now and the start of the season in August. The Warriors took the field last week for their first look at the 2009 club. Amite will have to replace the majority of last year’s team but Coach Foster did have the luxury of playing a lot of his new starters last season as Amite had a lot of games in which younger players were able to get in some quality reps. “Nothing comes easy but these players know about pride and hard work and dedication and that’s what it’s going to take. Both the offense and defense had their moments and the players are really looking forward to this week’s Purple and White Game.” The Warriors will wrap up spring drills with a scrimmage at Assumption next week. Coach Foster says that the goal over the next few weeks is to get his team to come together an put in some quality work before the summer off season workout program begins. “We have to work hard. The players know what’s expected of them and there is a lot of competition out here as we have many starting roles to be filled. It’s an exciting time for us all as we are kind of getting that football season feel.”
