Wedding vows exchanged
Ebenezer Church of the Nazarene was the setting on Friday, July 10, 2009 for a wedding ceremony uniting in marriage Jacy Nicole Morgan of Rayne and Scott David Ashby of Crowley
. The 7 p.m. vows were officiated by Joe Talhelm, pastor.
The bride is the daughter of Eric and Lindsey Rabalais of Rayne, and Clint and Mary Morgan, also of Rayne. Her grandparents are Allen and Francis Bertrand of Jennings. She is a graduate of North Vermilion High School, SLCC, and will attain her degree in the fall from UL-Lafayette.
The groom is the son of Cindy and David Ashby, Jr. of Crowley. His grandparents are Opal and David Ashby, Sr. of Jeanerette, the late Walterene Ashby, and E.H. and Jeanette Sarver of Crowley. He is a graduate of Crowley High School.
Providing musical selections for the wedding ceremony were Becky Talhelm and Nick Bertrand.
Ushering guests to their appointed seats were Travis Bertrand and Casey Ashby, cousins of the groom.
Scriptures were recited by Travis Bertrand.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore a sleeveless wedding gown of white bridal satin featuring a sweetheart neckline and accented with an abundance of beadwork, pearls and lace. A simple headpiece held a fingertip veil of English tulle finished with a rolled hemline. She carried a bouquet of red and white roses, ivory lilies and baby’s breath.
Traditional items selected by the bride for her wedding day included an earring tucked in the bridal bouquet belonging to her late aunt (Iva Meaux) as something old, her wedding dress as something new, a veil borrowed from her sister, and a ribbon in her bouquet as something blue.
Attending the bride as maid of honor was her best friend, Stephanie Sarver.
Bridesmaids were Allison Ashby, sister of the groom, and Christian Viator, cousin of the bride, while junior bridesmaid was Allie Kidder, cousin of the bride.
Serving as flower girl was Ella Buetner, niece of the bride.
Attending as best man was David Ashby, Jr., father of the groom.
Groomsmen were David Ashby, Sr., grandfather of the groom, and Cody Ashby, cousin of the groom.
Serving as ring bearer was Joseph Benoit, nephew of the groom.
For her daughter’s wedding, the bride’s mother wore a black and white dress with light summer jacket, while the groom’s mother selected a two-piece ensemble of champagne pink topped with a button jacket. Each was presented a corsage of ivory roses and lilies.
Immediately following the wedding ceremony, a reception was held in honor of the newlyweds at the Indian Bayou United Methodist Church Hall in Rayne.
Among the refreshments provided for the guests was the bride’s cake, a four-tier white confection accented with a ribbon trim on each layer. The cake was served by the bride’s godmother, Shellie Bertrand.
The groom’s cake was a red velvet confection topped with a football theme including a replica of a Saints football helmet.
Guests attended from numerous points of Louisiana, Texas and Alabama.
Following a wedding trip to Eureka Springs, Ark., the couple will reside in Crowley.
Prior to the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was held Thursday, July 9, at the Ebenezer Church of the Nazarene Hall. The 6:30 p.m. social was hosted by the groom’s parents.
