Wenzel Henry Habetz
Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Friday, November 27, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. for Wenzel Henry Habetz, 91, who died Tuesday, November 24, 2009, in Rayne Guest Home.
Interment was in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2, Rayne.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Marie Menard Habetz of Rayne; one sister, Helen W. Habetz of Rayne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wenzel and Marie were not blessed with children, but their close association with their nieces and nephews, family, friends and their faith in God made their life complete.
He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph August Habetz and Anna Martha Ohlenforest Habetz; six brothers, John, August, Andrew, Herman Joseph, Benedict, and Raymond Habetz; four sisters, Marie H. Foytlin, Gertrude Habetz, Annie Habetz and Rita Habetz.
He was born Friday, May 24, 1918 in Roberts Cove, son of the late Joseph August Habetz and the late Anna Martha Olenforst Habetz.
He was a member of Lay Carmelite since November 1951 and was a volunteer fireman for 44 years for the city of Rayne. He also belonged to the American Legion.
Mr. Wenzel served in the U.S. Army from March 22, 1941, until October 27, 1945. He stayed 3 years 8 months overseas in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign.
He worked many years at Southern Rice Mill drying rice. Sometimes he would dry rice 18 hours a day to make room for the rice farmers. He was a very caring man.
A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26.
Friends were received Thursday, November 26, 2009, from 3:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday, November 27, 2009, from 8:00 a.m. until services at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc.
