Widley Joseph “Pop” Istre
Crowley - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Widley Joseph “Pop” Istre, 81, who died November 7, 2009 in Crowley.
Fr. Matthew Higginbotham will be officiating for the services. Visiting hours were held Monday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to the time of service. A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
He is survived by four daughters, Julia Whitehouse and her husband, Larry of Rayne, Veronica “Roni” Duplichain and her husband, Alcide of Crowley, Lisa Corkin of Crowley, and Anne Istre of Crowley; four sons, Ravien Istre and his wife, Bridget, Ray Istre and his wife Margaret, Christopher Istre and his wife, Trudy of Baytown, Texas, and Gregory Istre of Crowley; two sisters, Helen Pepper of Rayne, and Earline Navarre of New Iberia, three brothers, Murphy, Julius, and Horace Istre all of New Iberia; twenty-one grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and his companion, Sylvia Gaudet of Crowley.
Mr. Istre is preceded in death by his wife, Lois LeJeune Istre; his father, Willie Istre; his mother, Nola Stutes Dyson; one grandson, Corey Istre; and two brothers, Ernest and Claran Istre.
Mr. Istre enjoyed fishing, dancing and especially spending time with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his loved ones.
