Wilton and Laura Thibodeaux celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

Wilton Thibodeaux and Laura Hebert became husband and wife on March 6, 1948, at St. John Catholic Church in Mermentau with Fr. Labbe officiating the ceremony.

Sixty years and two days later, Wilton and Laura Hebert were escorted by their children. Fr. Paul Metrejean officiated the “Diamond” anniversary at the American Legion Hall in Crowley on Saturday, March 8 at 2 p.m. The special occasion was hosted by the couple’s children and grandchildren from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Mrs. Thibodeaux is the daughter of Marie B. Denais of Crowley and the late Alcee Hebert.

Mr. Thibodeaux is the son of the late Theoza Richard Thibodeaux and the late Enos Thibodeaux, Sr.

Listed are the couple’s five children and their spouses , Dianna and Ted Breaux; A.J. Thibodeaux , Paul and Darla Thibodeaux, and Stella T. Peveto, Gerald Thibodeaux, and family friend Mark Stanford.

Listed also are nine grandchildren and their spouses, Nannette and Dupe Breaux; Theresa and Greg Thorne; David and Vickie Breaux; Brad and Kasie Thibodeaux; Shelly T. and Brian Bonnie; Heather T. and Jason Williams; Victoria, Adam, and Gavin Thibodeaux.

The couple has also been blessed with fifteen great-grandchildren. They are Taylor, Tyler, and Tanner Bonnie; Mallory Breaux; Amanda, Austin, and Ashley Thorne; Lee, Dustin, Dylan, and Megan Breaux; Grace Marie Thibodeaux; Brad John Thibodeaux II; Hunter and Ayden Williams, and one more on the way.

Fr. Metrejean renewed the couple’s vows. For the blessing of the rings (which were new gifts from each other), Brad John Thibodeaux II, brought the rings to “Maw Maw and Paw Paw” on a heart shaped pillow.

Fr. Metrejean recognized the bride’s mother, Mrs. Marie B. Denais, 98, of Crowley. She has been blessed to be able to live to see all of her children and spouses celebrate their 50th anniversaries.

Following the renewal of vows, Fr. Metrejean signed the Renewal of Wedding Vows Certificate, along with the couple’s five children serving as witnesses.

The traditional Wedding march was done with the couple followed by their children, grandchildren, and the bride’s mother, Mrs. Denais, who by the way, really enjoyed it.

For the special occasion, Mrs. Thibodeaux was attired in an ivory colored double breasted jacket trimmed in black with a black skirt.

Mr. Thibodeaux was attired in a dark grey suit with an ivory shirt and a burgundy and ivory “diamond print” tie. Gregory Hebert, nephew of the bride, designed an ivory, ribbon trimmed rose corsage and boutonniere for the happy couple.

The guest registry was decorated on an ivory table with a 60th guest register book. It also featured pictures from the couple’s past, their marriage license, and a photo of their wedding picture from 1948. Also on the table were Hershey Candy Bars wrapped with the couple’s names and date, and thank you book marked with the couple’s names and date.

The Anniversary cake was a three tiered confection done in square layers with the top tier being strawberry with strawberry filling in a square shape. The middle layer was a coconut cake with coconut filling in a diamond shape, and the bottom layer being yellow cake with pineapple filling in a square shape. Each layer was decorated with butter cream icing in ivory color with the basket weave decor. The top tier was adorned with a 60th cake topper. The middle diamond shaped cake had a diamond jewel signifying the mother of the bride. On the bottom layer were five diamond jewels, one for each of the couple’s five children. The cake was baked and decorated by the couple’s daughter, Stella T. Peveto.

Crystal fluted glasses were on the cake table for the couple and one for each child. Ivory colored napkins with the couple’s names and wedding date were also on the cake table. For the groom’s table, Mr. Thibodeaux had a German chocolate cake.

The food table consisted of rice dressing, pork and beans, brisket, sweet and sour meatballs and sausage, chicken sandwiches, shrimp mold, and crackers. Drinks consisted of punch, lemonade, and tea.

A special thank you to all who helped cook, David Breaux and family, Lee Breaux, Gerald Thibodeaux, Nannette Breaux and Dupe.

They would also like to give thanks to Gregory Hebert, Debbie Webb, Judy Primeaux, Lee Breaux, Gerald Thibodeaux, and Mark Stanford. for helping in the kitchen, serving the food and decorating the hall.

Godchild of the couple in attendance was Carlton and his wife Charlene Leger.

Guests registered from Crowley, Carlyss, Evangeline, Lafayette, Midland, Rayne, Mermentau, Scott, Abbeville, Meaux, Church Point, Opelousas, and Winnie and Crystal Beach, Texas.

Approximately 100 guests were in attendance.
