Wolves, Lady Wolves roundball action

With a good showing over the weekend by capturing the consolation bracket of the Lafayette High Tip-Off Classic, the Rayne High Wolves stepped on the court Tuesday as they hosted Crowley High, handing the intra-parish rivals a 66-49 loss.
During weekend tournament action, the Wolves began on a sour note, dropping a 54-43 contest to the hosting Lafayette High squad in their opener.
The Lions got off to a 12-5 start and never let up. The Wolves tried for a run in the last quarter with 19 points, but was too little too late.
Leading rayne scores in the Lafayette loss was Michael Henry with 11 points, followed closely by Peyton Larry with nine and Charles Jones at eight.
Rayne High answered with a 55-40 second round win over Abbeville. The Wolves blasted a 22-point first quarter and stayed on track for the win.
Leading scoes for the Wolves for the win was Michael Henry with 20 points.
The consolation final saw the Wolves take on Beau Chene for a 61-41 win.
What began as a close contest with a low 19-14 haldtime score and slight Rayne lead, both teams dropped in 17 points in the third period, leaving the last quarter up for grabs.
The Wolves grabbed hold of a 25-10 final quarter for the consolation bracket win. Henry dumped in 25 points to lead Rayne scores.
The Wolves will travel to Breaux Bridge Friday, then will return home on Tuesday when they will host Welsh.
The Lady Wolves traveled to Iota High School Tuesday evening where they slipped by the Lady Bulldogs, 51-44, improving to 8-1 on the early season.
The Lady Wolves attended a weekend tournament at Westminster Christian Academy where they finished with a 4-0 record in the round-robin format, the bets record among the teams in attendance.
During their first game of the tournament, the Lady Wolves claimed a 65-41 win over the hosting team.
Leading Rayne scores for the win was Tori Carriere and Whitley Larry with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
In their second round contest, the Lady Wolves claimed a 60-35 stomping over Kaplan. Naosha Leopaul dumped in 15 points for the win, along with nine by Cierra Harmon and six for Whitley Larry and Brentashia Lewis.
For their third round-robin contest, the Lady Wolves scored a come from behind win over Northwest, 57-46.
Trailing 35-21 at the half, Rayne turned on the offense in the second half to pull out the win.
Naosha Leopaul led Rayne High with 19 points for the win, followed closely by Tristan Mouton with a dozen and Tanner Wilson at 11.
In their final contest of the tournament, the Lady Wolves pulled out a 63-51 win over intra-parish rival Crowley High, completing a perfect 4-0 slate for the tournament.
The Lady Wolves will travel to Crowley Tuesday afternoon for a re-match of their weekend meeting with Crowley High.
