Rayne’s Marketplace March 14 at The Depot

Vendors, shoppers invited for quarterly event

The Rayne Depot will be the site of the quarterly Rayne Marketplace on Saturday, March 14, by the Rayne Chamber of Commerce and the City of Rayne, co-sponsors.
Formerly known as the Farmers Market, Chairman Marietta Leonards-Sikat invites all shoppers and vendors to the event to be enjoyed in downtown Rayne between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
“All previous categories will again be available,” states Sikat, “including seasonal fresh vegetables, produce, homegrown plants and flower, prepared non-edible or edible products (prepared by you) and artisans (hand-made items).”
The re-vamped Rayne Marketplace weekend will continue to offer refreshments that will be sold, along with music. The Chamber will also continue to provide concessions of soft drinks, coffee and bottled water.

Mire Fire Dept Fundraiser this weekend

The Mire Volunteer Fire Department Annual Fundraiser will be held this weekend on Saturday, March 7, at the Rayne Civic Center.
The day will begin with a Poker Run with a 8 a.m. sign-up and 9 a.m. start time.
A new event, “Color Fun Run” will be held with registration at 8 a.m. The event will begin at 9 a.m.
Delicious jambalaya will be served for $4 per bowl, along with a cake sale and other refreshments.
Between 1 p.m. and midnight live entertainment will be provided by Colby Latiolais, Horace Trahan & The Ossun Express and Dustin Sonnier.
The day’s activities will also include a raffle, silent and live auctions, fun jumps for the children and a 2 p.m. cake sale.
COLOR RUN ALSO SLATED
One of many events to be enjoyed during the weekend of the Mire Volunteer Fire Department’s fundraiser is a new “Color Fun Run” scheduled Saturday, March 7, at the Rayne Civic Center.
Join the fun for a 1.5 mile run/walk where everyone will be doused in color. Start time ia 9 a.m.
Registration is $20 per person which includes a t-shirt (same day registration will not guarantee a t-shirt). Pre-register by February 7 to guarantee a free t-shirt.

City of Rayne Annual City Easter Egg Hunt planned

Mark your calendars now as the 2020 City of Rayne Annual Easter Eggstravaganza will be held Saturday, April 4, between the hours of 1-3 p.m. at Mauboules Park.
Egg hunts for ages eight years and under will be held at the baseball fields in two different age groups (0-4 and 5-8 years).
There will be separate games for children 9-12 year of age. Both egg hunts and games will include bicycles as possible prizes.
Contests for children ages 0-4, 5-8 and 9-12 will include egg decorating contest (bring your decorated egg in clear bag with child’s name and age on it), coloring sheet contest (color sheet and bring to event completed with name and age. Both contests will be judged at the event.
Face painting will be enjoyed, while “Rayne Rocks” will provide a booth for fun rock painting.
In addition, the Easter Bunny will be in attendance for pictures for all ages.
Hot dogs and drinks will be provided as refreshments.

Cleanest City District Contest slated March 25

RAYNE - Rayne citizens and civic organizations are being asked to do their part for the 2020 District Cleanest City Contest.
Judging will take place in the city of Rayne on Wednesday, March 25, at 9 a.m. as announced by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation.
District Chairman Kathy Tell and judges will be welcomed at City Hall by the city and the Garden Club as the general public is invited to also attend.
Mayor Charles “Chuck” Robichaux and Chairman Lisa Soileaux of the Rayne Garden Club, co-sponsors of the annual event, urge all citizens to show their community pride by preparing their neighborhoods for the judges.
In addition, neighbors are urged to help elderly or disabled neighbors in preparing their lawn and garden for the judging. Every little bit helps.

Rayne Lions Club Radio Auction begins Monday

Three-day event offering unique items

RAYNE - Well over 100 items will be up for grabs when the Rayne Lions Club stages its 46th annual three-night Radio Auction beginning Monday, March 9.
Headquartered in the Green Room of the Rayne Civic Center Complex, the auction will be broadcast over Sunny 95.1 and my sunny 951.com, (1450 KSIG) and Pure Country 106.7 radio from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. each night.
The Lions will be auctioning off everything from bar tabs to gift certificates to favorite area restaurants, from steak dinners to sacks of crawfish, from oil changes to portalette rentals, and all you have to do is listen in and call 393-4117 or 393-4047 to bid on items.
Each night will feature a number of “all-night” items on which bids will be accepted until 9:30 p.m.

On Monday, March 9, Lions will accept bids throughout the evening on the featured items including a weekend cabin rental at Cajun Campground; two dozen custom caps or t-shirts by Bayou Silkscreening; crawfish boil for 25 people by M&P 98 Jamie Prevost LPC and D&R Towing; and a ribeye rack up to $125 from Trahan Foods.
Tuesday’s featured items will include a 60-quart boiling pot with basket and two sacks of crawfish by Don Landry for District Attorney & Stines; ribeye rack up to $150 from Trahan Foods by Gossen Funeral Home; crawfish boil at buyer’s location including two sacks of crawfish, corn, potatoes by Lion Stacy Ancelet; BBQ package of ribeyes, sausage, BBQ tool set, burner with cooking surface by D&R Towing, Doug Ashy, Nonc Kev’s and LeJeune’s; and 10 yards of topsoil by Aucoin’s Trucking.
Featured items on Wednesday includes catering for 75 people off of the basic menu by Country Catering; handmade six-foot conversion bench/picnic table of LSU National Champs 2019 with two tiki torchces and fluid by Lion Jackie Prejean and Farmer’s True Value; BBQ pit made by the City of Rayne by Mayor Chuck Robichaux and City Councilmen; three-hour limo ride/rental by Lafayette Limo & Trolley; and ribeye rack from Piggly Wiggly by Mayor Chuck Robichaux and Peggy King.
Items can be picked up and paid for at the Lions Hut on Gossen Memorial Drive Tuesday, March 10, through Thursday, March 12, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment.

Purvis Joseph Domingue

MIRE - Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020, at 2:00 pm at Gossen Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne, for Purvis Joseph Domingue, 87, who died Tuesday, March 3, at his residence in Mire.

Inurnment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2, Rayne.

Rev. Jimmy Broussard, First Presbyterian Church in Crowley, will conduct the Memorial services.

Mr. Domingue was known as the Legend in the Bosco Community. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed being an animal trapper and also loved running his crawfish traps.

Survivors include his daughter, Kollie Domingue Doucet; daughter-in-law, Veronica Domingue; five grandchildren, Lauren Primeaux and spouse Mathew, Hannah Hoffpauir and spouse Devin, Paige Domingue, Matthew Domingue and spouse Mindy, and Noah Domingue; three great grandchildren, Shailey Trahan, Lilly Domingue and Maverick Hoffpauir; sister, Joyce Domingue; and brother, Gilford Domingue.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Richard Domingue; son, Jason Domingue; daughter, Sharon Ann Domingue; son-in-law, Darryl Beasy Doucet; father, Whitney Domingue; mother, Edith Benoit Domingue; and four brothers, Elmo Domingue, Irvin Domingue, Stanford Domingue and Willard Domingue.

The family requests visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, on Friday, March 6, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
