Train fatality investigated by Rayne Police

UPDATE:
Rayne Chief of Police Carroll J. Stelly has released details of a fatality involving a train and pedestrian in Rayne.
On Monday Nov. 27, at 1:14 p.m., a train accident was reported at the railroad crossing at Mervine Kahn Extension near the intersection of Seventh Street and American Legion Drive. Officers along with Acadian Ambulance responded and discovered a pedestrian who was unresponsive.
The preliminary investigation determined a white male, 59-year-old Harold J. Rodgers Jr., a resident at 315 Lyman Street in Rayne, was walking north on Mervine Kahn Extension and was struck a by a west bound Amtrak Train traveling from New Orleans to Beaumont.
The Acadia Parish Coroner’s office pronounced Rodgers dead at the scene of the accident and the incident is still under investigation.
