Robbery investigation continues
Police here continue to investigate the Wednesday afternoon robbery of a local bank.
According to Police Chief Jimmy Broussard, the robber entered the main branch of Bank of Commerce and Trust Co. at 326 N. Avenue G at around noon, walked up to the teller and demanded cash.
The teller did as she was instructed and the robber left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Broussard said the robber never brandished or indicated that he was in possession of a weapon at any time during the robbery.
According to witnesses and surveillance inside the bank, the robber is described as a black male, small in build, wearing a dark, hooded sweater, light-colored pants and a stocking cap.
He left the bank on foot in an unknown direction, according to Broussard.
Broussard said the teller had only $1, $5 and $10 bills in the register at the time of the robbery, “so the suspect only made away with a few hundred dollars.”
Anyone with information as to the identity of the suspect in this bank robbery is urged to contact Detective Sgt. Steve Comeaux at (337) 788-4139 or by email at scomeaux@crowleypolice.com.
Broussard noted that while officers were patrolling the area to try and locate the suspect, his Communication Division contacted nearby banks to alert them.
“The good part about our small community is that we do know our local banks,” he said. “They (officers) took the initiative, along with patrol to say, ‘OK, let’s contact these banks, and let them know.’ And the banks were very appreciative and they were on high alert and they were watching.”
