Winners crowned during 2020 Mardi Gras Gumbo Cook-Off
RAYNE - The 5th Annual Rayne Mardi Gras Parade and After Party is all but a memory as beads have been stored and pictures have been shared of the fun events.
But for the chefs of the area, they are showing off their hardware collected during the Chicken and Sausage Cook-Off held at the Frog Festival Pavilion following the parade fun.
Co-sponsored by the Rayne Chamber and City of Rayne, along with a number of volunteers, the Cook-Off saw eight teams show off their cooking skills between the hours of 4-7 p.m. as announced by Chairman Brian Mouton.
The Cook-Off, as well as the Mardi Gras Parade and After Party are held for the community, economic development and tourism with everyone invited to participate.
There was no admission fee to attend the After Party and Gumbo Cook-Off; but, a $5 ticket provided those in attendance a chance to enjoy all the different gumbos provided during the contest, providing not only a fun but delicious day.
Awarded during the Gumbo Cook-Off were:
1st place - Camo Country Store
2nd place - Krewe du Vieux Temps
3rd place - Nonc Kev’s Krewe
People’s Choice - A&O 21st Century Club
In addition to the Gumbo Cook-off, the After Party also included BBQ burgers provided for sale by the RHS Band Booster Club, beer and soft drinks at the Chamber concession booth, fun jumps provided by A & O 21st Century Club, and a DJ with music that everyone enjoyed.
Teams who participated in the Cook-Off were Two Bald Guys & a Black Pot, The Bank, Rotary Club of Rayne, A&O 21st Century Club, Krewe du Vieux Temps, Nonc Kev’s Krewe, Camp Country Store and Rayne Building & Loan.
