Joseph Gerald Gibson

RAYNE - Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Starlight Missionary Baptist Church for Joseph Gerald “Snake” Gibson Sr., 83, who died Monday, July 15, at a Texas hospital.
Funeral services were celebrated by Rev. Nathan Stevens, pastor.
Internment was at Our Mother of Mercy Cemetery, Rayne.
Gerald was born on Sept. 10, 1935, to Curtis and Viola Young Gibson of Rayne. He was married to Vernal Gibson and together they shared 65 years filled with love and laughter. He was a devoted husband and father.
Second to the love he had for his family was his job as he loved his job and colleagues. He will be missed, but not forgotten.
Well known in the Rayne community, he worked as a road service technician for approximately 20 years with Laurent J. Guidry Tire Company and 45 years with John Menard Tire Company, Inc., both located in Rayne.
Gerald is preceded in death by his wife, Vernal Malbrough Gibson; his parents, Curtis and Viola Gibson; grandparents, Edward Young and Ophelia Mouton Young; and three brothers, Anthony “BeBe” Gibson Sr. and twins Wilfred and Wilbert Gibson.
Left to cherish his memory are Joseph Gerald “JJ” Gibson Jr. of Rayne, Stephanie Gibson of New Orleans, Leatri Anna Renee Locksey (Nathan) of Houston, Texas, Joseph Gerald Broussard (Consolotta) of Rayne, Terrence Jermaine Gibson of Rayne; siblings, Ophelia Marie Augustine (Joseph) of Martinez, Calif., Evelyn Joyce Roy (Henry) of Beaumont, Texas, Myrtle Gibson of Martinez, Calif., Aquator Sullivan (Ben) of Richmond, Calif., Eva “Suzie” Charles (Ezzie) of Rayne, Larry Gibson (Carol) of Houston, Texas, Carl Gibson (Brigid) of Rayne, Charlene Martin of Rayne, Don Gibson (Beth) of Martinez, Calif. and Kathy Gibson of Martinez, Calif.; aunt, Lillian Rubon of Port Arthur, Texas; one sister-in-law, Earlean Gibson; grandchildren, Whitney Locksey, Jared Pellissier, Darius Gibson, Destini Gibson, Lauryn Locksey and Chole Edmund; great-grandchildren, Janson Pellissier and Jalen DeShawn Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Pall bearers were Joshua Gibson, Jeremy Gibson, Darius Gibson, Chad Gibson, Jared Pellissier and Kevin Gibson.
Honorary pall bearers were Larry Gibson, Carl Gibson, Don Gibson, Wayne Wilridge, Randy Gibson, Anthony Gibson Jr., Anthony Johnson, Curtis Guidry, Janson Pellissier, Jalen Robinson, LeDeria Charles, Gregory Gibson, Chris Roy, Henry Roy, Ezzie Charles, Ivy Credeur, Jason Gibson, Brian Gibson and Justin Gibson.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Syrie Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette.
