Lloyd Gabriel Miller

God saw the road was getting rough, The hill was hard to climb.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Lloyd Gabriel Miller, 89, who passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at his residence in Sunset.
Interment will be held in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Cemetery. Rev. Ivan Louis and Honorary Rev. Otis Beasley Jr. of Israelite Baptist Church and Rev. Marvin Young of Bethlehem Baptist Church will officiate at the services. Readers will be Robynn Miller, Leotha Charles and Tiffany Jones.
Mr. Lloyd Gabriel Miller was born in Cankton to Alcee “Pappy” Miller and Emily Rubit Miller on Oct. 12, 1927. God mercifully and tenderly whispered for Brother Miller to lay down his burdens to study war no more and receive heaven’s reward.
Lloyd also known and “Pumpkin” resided in the Cankton – Sunset area all his life. He was a loving brother, uncle and godfather. Lloyd went into the Army in 1950 and served for two years. Upon his return, he worked as a chef at St. Charles College in Grand Coteau; Lafayette Charity Hospital and Guaranty Bank both of Lafayette. Lloyd also worked as a supervisor with Calvin Noel’s Janitorial Service. Later he became an employee of Melancon Funeral Home, were he remained for 33 years.
Lloyd accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He worshiped in the Catholic faith for many years before he made his church home at Israelite Baptist Church in Crowley, Louisiana for over 30 years. He served as a deacon and was ever ready to do what was needed. He then became a member and honorary deacon at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Sunset.
Lloyd says farewell to his sister, Elsie Miller Jones, of Beaumont, Texas; his aunt, Hazel Miller Plumbar (John Green), of Sunset; his sister-in-law, Rosa Miller, of Raywood, Texas; six nephews; seven nieces and a host of other relatives, godchildren and friends.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alcee (Emily Rubit) Miller; two brothers, George “Sugga Bogger” Miller and John Berchman Miller; a sister-in-law, Leotha Fuselier Miller; and two nephews, Raiford Miller and Michael Duplechain.
The family requests visiting hours be observed from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday and will continue from 8 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
The family of the late Lloyd Gabriel Miller wishes to thank you for all your support during these difficult times. He was blessed with so many great family and friends. Lloyd was a special part of our family who will live on forever in our hearts. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude and say thank you to each one of you for making this difficult time a little easier.

Pallbearers will be Blakely Zeno, Jimmy Charles, Jr. (Peto), Anthony Johnson (Tuttie), Ethan Warren (Buddy), Shawn Monroe, Christopher Monroe and Malcom Francis.
