‘Movie in the Park’, held at Rayne Depot

Hundreds attend inaugural event

RAYNE - The historic Rayne Depot was the setting on Sunday, Dec. 1, for “Movie in the Park” when over 300 family members of all ages attended the inaugural event.
Co-sponsored by the City of Rayne, Rayne Remembered Facebook Group and Don Shetler Chevrolet, refreshments were served and the holiday classic, The Polar Express,” was enjoyed by young and old, alike.
Surrounded by spectacular Christmas decor and towering Christmas trees, the holiday fun began at 5 p.m. when fans, young and old, visited with Santa Claus when they took photos with “the jolly man in red” and handwritten letters were submitted from the little ones.
Following the 5-6 p.m. visits with Santa and refreshments, “The Polar Express” movie was enjoyed by the hundreds in attendance, all dressed in pajamas, along with blankets and warm hats as the winter chill was in the air.
A fun night of the old-fashioned holidays was enjoyed by all as admission was free and refreshments of hot chocolate, popcorn, hot dogs and bottled water were provided and served by Don Shetler Chevrolet and their employees.
In addition, the season of giving was also observed as boxes were provided at the Depot for the collection of food donations, coats for kids and toys for the needy. All donations were received by the Daily Manna Center in Rayne.
“We are very surprised at the turnout tonight,” stated Donnie Venable of Don Shetler Chevrolet.
“We had a little electrical issues at first; but once that was corrected, everyone really enjoyed the evening.
“It was really a great night and we’re already tossing around plans for the next event.”
To top things off during an almost perfect evening of the movie showing, an Amtrak train roared through the city directly behind the movie screen at the same exact moment the train was traveling during the movie.
