First Responder Battleground Tourney Nov. 2

Police, firefighters and first responders will square off in a day of friendly competitions Nov. 2 at the International Rice Festival Building.
Plans are being finalized for the day-long First Responder Battleground Tournament ending with a boxing tournament and Jujitsu competition. Each fighter has chosen to fight — for free — to benefit St. Jude Research Hospital.
Kid-friendly activities and refreshment vendors will be on hand for the event.
Activities at the Rice Festival Building from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. are free. Admission to the fights and Jujitsu competition will be $10 per person with children 12 and under admitted free.
More details on the day will be announced as they are made available.

Chad A. “Deuce” Villejoin

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Chad A. “Deuce” Villejoin, 36, who passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2019, at his home in Crowley at 5:32 p.m.
Brother Gerard Morgan, from Northside Assembly of God Church in Crowley, will be officiating for the services.
Burial will be held in the Abshire Cemetery in rural Kaplan.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Friday, Oct. 25, from 3:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Visitation will resume on Saturday at 8 a.m. and will continue until time of services.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Vernice “P.C.” and Bea Villejoin of Crowley; four step-sisters, Tessie Cooper and fiancé Bobby Cramer of Crowley, Shannon Schexneider of Mamou, Michelle and husband Perry Burney of Lafayette and Anjelle and husband Jimmy Mournier of Crowley; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Villejoin was preceded in death by his mother, Lucina Villejoin; two sisters, Patricia Ann Villejoin and Melinda Faye Seaux; his paternal grandparents, Lucille and Edward Villejoin; and his maternal grandparents, Ruth and James Clendenon.

Rufus Leo Lormand

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Rufus Leo Lormand, 82, who passed away Oct. 22, 2019, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
Rev. Jason Miller, pastor of Amana Christian Fellowship Church in Maurice, will be officiating for the services.
The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to the time of service at 3 p.m.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Rufus graduated from Crowley High School in 1956. He then joined the United State Air Force after school.
Mr. Lormand dedicated his working life to the oil field, retiring after 40 years in offshore production.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Penny Ford Lormand of Duson; three sons, Christopher Dean Lormand and wife Robin of Duson, William “Billy” Lormand and wife Debbie of Crowley, and Douglas Kyle Lormand and wife Jessica of Houston; two brothers, James Lormand of Jennings and Newton Lormand of Baton Rouge; nine grandchildren, Ross Lormand and wife Erin, Amy Lormand, Corey Lormand, Tori Lormand, Donna Lormand, Taylor Lormand, Chyna Hogan, Garrett Hogan, and Randall Hodges; and one great-grandchild, Collin Koch.
Mr. Lormand is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Lourise Stutes Lormand; and one brother, Merlyn Lormand.
Pallbearers will be Chris Lormand, Billy Lormand, Doug Lormand, Ross Lormand, Corey Lormand, and Mike Regan.
