Richard Scott Baldwin

Richard Scott Baldwin, 74, known to all as Scott, was born April 5, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sept. 26, 2024, at Southwind Nursing Home in Crowley.
Scott grew up in Birmingham, Michigan, until he was 9 years old when his family moved to Lake Charles, and later to Vinton. He attended school in Lake Charles, Vinton, and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1968.
Scott was a fun-loving person who loved 60’s and 70’s music, playing the piano, and was a joke teller who always had a selection of Boudreaux and Thibodeaux jokes.
Scott never met a stranger, and he brightened the days of many with his stories and jokes. His greatest joys were his dog Vada, his family and friends. He was well known for always stopping by for a visit.
After graduating from Radio & Television Broadcasting School in Houston, Texas, Scott began his career in 1974 as popular disc jockey “Dr. Ralph Sideways” for KSMB-FM. He later went on to work at KVOL-AM, and KATC and KLFY television. He moved to Baton Rouge to DJ for WJBO-FM radio in Baton Rouge.
Scott returned to Lafayette in 1976 when he began a career in the oil industry working for Baroid, Chromalloy, and Drilling Records. In the late 1980s he transferred with Drilling Records and moved to The Woodlands, Texas.
While living in the Houston area, Scott worked security for many area concerts and shared his love for music with his beloved godchild, Michael Baldwin. Shortly after retirement, he returned to Crowley to assist in caring for his parents at Southwind Assisted Living.
Scott is survived by his brother Bruce J. (B.J.) Baldwin and wife Brenda of Lafayette; his sister Lane B. Breaux and husband Brian of Baton Rouge; his godchild and nephew, Michael Baldwin of Austin, Texas; his nieces, Melanie B. Norwood of Highwood, Illinois, and Rachel B. Fryoux and husband Jonathan of Baton Rouge; and his great-nephew, Dylan Fryoux, and great-niece Paige Fryoux.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Jim and Judy Baldwin of Crowley; and his sister, Mary Baldwin of Baton Rouge and Estes Park, Colorado.
The family expresses their sincere thanks to Scott’s best friend Paula Comeaux, for everything she did to care for him, and for bringing him back to God. Additional thanks to the entire staffs of both Southwind Nursing Home and Lamm Hospice for caring for Scott in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be given to the Alzheimer’s Association in his name.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. Scott will be cremated.
All family and friends were invited to attend his Memorial Service at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, 301 N. Avenue F, Crowley, on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m.
Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.geesey-ferguson.com.
