Balanced offense leads Warriors past Blue Jays

The Northside Christian Warriors scored early and often Friday en route to an 89-46 thrashing of the St. Edmund Blue Jays at Seth Trahan Memorial Gym.
The victory sent the Warriors to 13-13 on the season heading into tonight’s District 6-C home opener against Hackberry at 5 o’clock.
The Warriors were clicking on all cylinders from the start with a 22-point outburst in the opening frame Friday.
Andrew Woods accounted for eight first-quarter points and Joseph Woods added six to help the hosts bolt out to a 22-12 advantage.
Caleb Hanks led the charge in the second quarter with nine points. Carson Tweedel and Jake Morgan each added eight points in the frame and the Warriors took a commanding 53-32 advantage with a 31-point outburst.
Things went from bad to worse in the second half for the visiting Blue Jays, who were unable to contain the Warriors’ offense.
Garrett Kidder poured in eight points for the hosts, who pulled away for good with a 21-6 run in the third period that helped push the lead to 74-38.
Hanks, who led all scorers on the night with 22 points, scored six more in the fourth quarter and the Warriors closed out the game on a 15-8 run.
The two teams combined for 62 fouls with each team being whistled for 31.
The Warriors connected on just 18 of their 42 free throw attempts while the Blue Jays went just 16-for-36 from the stripe.
Hanks was one of five players to score in double figures for the Warriors.
Joseph Woods and Jagger Thibodeaux followed with 12 points each. Morgan and Tweedel each scored 10 points.
Kidder and Andrew Woods just missed double figures with nine and eight points, respectively and Christian Myers, Kye Laughlin and Noah Woods rounded out the offense with two points each.
