Decorate windows for Rice Festival

The International Rice Festival has announced that the popular Window Decorating Contest will again be held this year.
“We invite your organization to participate in this year’s contest, which can be a fun and creative activity for groups of all ages,” said Shanna Monk, festival coordinator.
Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places in three divisions — Senior (adult civic groups, nursing homes, businesses, etc.); Intermediate (high school); and Junior (elementary school).
Entry forms are available at the Rice Festival Office, 303 N. Parkerson Ave., or by calling 783-3067.
A sketch of the window design must accompany the entry form, which must be returned to the Rice Festival Office by Monday, Sept. 23.
The assigned window must be completed by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14. Judging will take place on Oct. 15 and winners will be notified no later than Oct. 16.
Judging criteria will include:
• overall appearance of the window (20 points);
• the use of rice — how much is used, how it is used, etc. (40 points);
• how well the theme was carried out (20 points); and
• originality (20 points).
The name and window theme should be printed on a card and placed in the window.
Overall theme for this year’s festival is “Rice ... An International Treasure.”
