Festival Association elects new board members, officers for 2020
About 65 members of the International Rice Festival Association attended the recent Annual Meeting to learn how the 2019 festival fared and to cast their vote on three vacant board seats.
Josh Spell, 83rd festival general chairman, began by thanking each and every volunteer who made the 2019 festival a success. The festival board saw an increase in sponsorships and heard great reviews on the entertainment lineup, according to Spell.
“The 83rd International Rice Festival was a huge success, but we could not do it without our volunteers, sponsors and our community,” he said.
The 83rd president, Deborah Nutt Whiting, continued by expressing how grateful she was to all who made the festival special for her followed by Jimi Joubert, 83rd International Rice Festival Queen, who shared her recent travels with the membership. She had visited more than 20 events throughout Louisiana since her crowning in October.
After voting commenced, ballots were counted and three new members of the board were announced.
Selected to fill the three-year term seats were Elizabeth Monk, Amy Pastor and Suzy Webb.
On Tuesday, Feb. 4, the new board held its first meeting of the year where they elected their Executive Board for the 2020 Festival.
Chosen as to serve as general chairman was Spell with Nutt serving as co-chair.
Tessa Richard was elected as secretary-treasurer and Julian Leblanc will serve as member-at-large.
In addition, the board re-appointed Shanna Monk as festival coordinator.
