IRF board fills vacated positions
Seats vacated by recent resignations were filled during a Tuesday meeting of the International Rice Festival Board of Directors.
The remaining six directors approved the appointment of three long-time members of the Festival Association to fill the vacancies for the remainder of the year.
Joining the 2018 board of directors will be Gene Williams, Gilles Piron and Kevin Spell. The position of festival coordinator has been filled by Shanna Comeaux Morgan.
In a joint statement, the board offered sincere appreciation to Roxie Viator for her many years of service and dedication to the festival. In addition, the board also sends its thanks to the three board members — Jody Viator, Kira Viator Weber and Jonathon Habetz — for their many years of commitment and dedication to the festival.
The board also pledged transparency in its dealings going forward.
“The resignations of our three fellow board members and festival coordinator were unfortunate,” the board said in the statement. “A financial compensation agreement between the board of directors and the festival coordinator could not be reached, resulting in a personal decision to resign from her position as festival coordinator.
“Along with her resignation, the additional three board members also chose to resign from their positions.”
Board members, along with the general membership and volunteers, are optimistic about the future of the long-time festival. Planning for the 82nd annual festival is underway and announcements such as the IRF president and the anticipated entertainment lineup will be available soon.
“We are moving forward to an exciting festival weekend October 17 through 21,” the board stated.
