Sheriff: Solicitation letters not a scam, not for campaign fund

Solicitation letters from the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association Honorary Membership Program are not a scam, according to Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson.
“The Louisiana Sheriff’s Association Honorary Membership Program recently mailed out solicitations to all parishes in the state. On the solicitation, each sheriff has agreed for the organization to utilize his name, to promote this program,” Gibson explained. “This program does assist each parish with some funding for scholarships and other law enforcement needs.”
Gibson said he has received a number of calls asking if this is a scam. He assures that it is not.
“I have also been asked how this will impact Acadia Parish,” he said. “This program puts some of the proceeds back into each parish, as the remaining funds are used to focus on supporting all sheriff’s departments with various needs for education, legislation and more.
“This solicitation is not a fundraising event for my campaigns,” he added.
