Renovations are underway on this historic building in downtown Washington, Louisiana. The building was originally built as a general merchandise store in about 1870 and was later owned and operated by the Max Klaus family. A Lafayette architect has recently purchased the building with plans to convert it into a boutique hotel — Hotel Klaus. Sarah Armentor Bercier of Crowley is a direct descendant of the Klaus family that lived on the second floor of the building.
